In X – FMN*, the composers Hans Unstern, Neo Hülcker, Katharina Pelosi and Heinrich Horwitz and the Ensemble Garage musicians take the audience with them to Uranus. Paul B. Preciado, the philosopher, curator and one of the leading thinkers in the fields of gender studies and philosophy of the body, describes in his book An Apartment on Uranus, Chronicles of a Transition (2020) a place that could become a new home for people without a binary identity. Uranus as utopia: as a place of sexual and gender dissidence. This evening, Ensemble Garage seeks to create this place through music.

Premieres by Neo Hülcker, Katharina Pelosi and Hans Unstern are programmed features of this rather unusual evening, and self-made harps 'tune' the room. The concert, staged by director Heinrich Horwitz, deals with questions and topics such as: Can (new) music be genderless? - Are there gender attributes inscribed in (new) music? - The binary gender order only allows two options. - Art could be a place where the outcome does not have to have a gender. - What happens when we no longer know where and who started something? - The musicians could be understood as in-between beings, parts of the non-binary, in that it remains unclear whether the instruments or the musicians create the art.

Ensemble Garage
The ten members of Ensemble Garage seek answers to artistic, social and aesthetic questions that shape our time. At the same time, the ensemble seeks means and methods for contemporary compositional expression fields. The focus is on reflecting the (post)-internet society with all its digital-media manifestations and the development in new music towards transmedial, theatrical and performative production forms. This includes the importance of cooperation with other artists. It has already organised numerous exchange concerts with young composers all over Europe and regularly works with guest curators and artists from other fields, such as video (Warped Type and others) or dance (Mouvoir / Stephanie Thiersch and others). The ensemble regularly performs at renowned festivals at home and abroad and is a permanent partner of FRAU MUSICA NOVA.
